"Angel"
Finale, & Some Controversy About The Movie (s)?
Buffy.Nu
passed on a report from on of their sources that claims that the rumors
of the " Angel " TV movies
could be a ruse to keep fans placated. The report follows: "I
saw Mercedes McNab this
past weekend at a convention and she said none of the cast has heard about
doing a movie, and they think it is a hoax that the WB is pulling on the
fans to placate them and to get them to keep watching the WB next season.
So if the movie was really going to happen in Sept you think they would
be in contract negociations with the actors about it at this time and they
would have heard something. If they were going to be airing in Sept they
would have to be filming it in June or July, which means contracts would
have to be done now at the latest, since that's not happening I don't see
this happening."
Mediasharx
has released an official synopsis from the series finale which sounds like
there will be quite a bit left hanging:
"Angel
and company spend the day as if it were their last as they prepare to bring
down the evil Circle of the Black Thorn. Putting their lives on the line,
Spike confronts a demon cult, Lorne faces off with Lindsay, Gunn takes
on an evil senator and Angel battles Hamilton (Adam
Baldwin), the henchman of the Senior Partners".
Silvio
Astarita Has Dredd
In 1977
John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra gave the world to Judge
Dredd, the law in the Mega-City One. Nothing has been the same since.
Dredd made his form of enforcement felt. His adventures been read by millions,
inspired at least two songs, "I Am the Law" by Anthrax and "Mutants in
Mega-City One" by the Fink Brothers, but, on the downside they also were
translated into a disappointing 1995
film starring Sylvester
Stallone as Dredd.
CBR
News talked with Silvio
Astarita, one of the producers of a new Judge Dredd film currently
in pre-production with I Am The Law Productions and Framework in association
with Rebellion/2000
AD. Back in May 2003, Shoreline Entertainment announced pre-production
two Dredd films, "Judge Dredd: Dredd Reckoning" and "Judge Dredd: Possession."
The films were supposed to be shot back to back, and be the start of a
series. But, that did not happen. "We have
a new writer on board so we will have a new story line,"
Astarita said, but did not reveal the identity of the writer. Neither were
they quick to name a director. "We do have
someone in mind right now, but again to soon to reveal the name."
Astarita stated. About possible stars he said, "
I do not believe we need a big name actor for the main role but that doesn't
mean we will not get one."
BTW:
As long as we're talking Dredd, DC
Comics announced that it has acquired exclusive North American distribution
rights for the Judge Dredd comics from UK publisher Rebellion. The first
books to be published in September 2004 are the Batman/Judge Dredd Files
and Sinister Dexter: Gunshark Vacation.

Lovewrecked
Media
8 Entertainment, who recently produced "Monster,"
will now produce, finance and distribute the family comedy "Lovewrecked."
Production is due to commence in June in the Caribbean, with casting beginning
shortly. It's the story of an 18-year-old who finds that her favorite rock
star, Jason, will be a guest at the resort where she is working. When the
pair are thrown overboard during a cruise and become stranded on a remote
beach, she doesn't tell him that they are just down the road from the resort.
Wackiness ensues, no doubt.

Australian
Court Halts Film Production
An Australian
court Thursday stopped the location shooting of the $130-million Sony/Columbia
film Stealth in an area
west of Sydney, due to protests by environmentalists. The New South Wales
Land and Environment Court overruled the local agencies that had previously
granted permits to the filmmakers, saying that the areas are "sacrosanct."
Mike Medavoy, Neal
Moritz, Arnold Messer,
and Laura Ziskin, the
film's producers, told the court that any interruption would cost them
at least $360,000 a day. Director Rob
Cohen, who identified himself as a member of Greenpeace and other environmental
groups, asserted that the film makers would harm the forest's environment
less than "the average Japanese tourist." After the ruling, the New South
Wales premier, Bob Carr, said that he would immediately introduce special
legislation to reverse the court decision.
