C Wayne Owens' Movie & TV News is a daily newsletter featuring news gathered from all over the net with the newest and hottest movie and tv scoops. It is heavily weighted towards SF and Fantasy film, but if it's news (and not just Celeb gossip) it will be here, and be here weeks before the TV News shows even touch on it.

MOVIE & TV NEWS

Buffy the Comic Returns
Dark Horse Comics is bringing back "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" in a new comics series, that will begin, according to Comics Continuum, "as a de facto eighth season." Beginning in March the first story arc will show the events after the Buffy television series' finale. Joss Whedon will write, with art by Georges Jeanty.

Dr. Who 2
SCI FI Wire reports that the second season of the BBC's new Doctor Who series is set to be released on DVD in the United States on Jan. 16, 2007. Megan Branigan, vice president of BBC video marketing, said: "We're over the moon with Doctor Who. We're really pleased with the results this year. We're very excited to continue the momentum with [season] two as we did with [season] one." (That second season will air in the United States on SCI FI Channel, starting Sept. 29.)

 Spaceballs Animated
We had covered this a couple of months ago, but Corresponent Jesse pointed out the new  CNN.com article about the Mel Brooks  animated series, and we decided to mention it to any who missed it. The site said: "Like the 1987 movie, which parodied well-known science-fiction movies, Spaceballs: The Animated Series will spoof current blockbusters as well as every genre of entertainment from movies and reality TV to culture and politics." No casting has been announced.

Exodus Film Group hired  Tony Leondis to direct the Chris McKenna written CG-animated comedy "Igor." The story tells of hunchbacked lab assistant Igor (Christian Slater) who dreams of becoming a scientist just like his boss Dr. Glickenstein  (John Cleese) and winning first-place at the annual Evil Science Fair. Steve Buscemi plays Igor's smart but grumpy lab rabbit.

SNL Cast Cuts
Lorne Michaels has been forced to reduce the cast by firing five of the 16 members rather than do fewer episodes of "Saturday Night Live." Among those five are Chris Parnell and Horatio Sanz, who apparently were being let go primarily because their salaries were higher than the others as a result of their longevity. Ratings for the show tumbled to their lowest level ever last season.

Atlas Shrugged
Angelina Jolie will play Dagny Taggart in the film adaptation of Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" for Lionsgate. The word is that Brad Pitt is in talks to play John Galt. The movie has been in development for years and has passed through the hands of nearly every great director in Hollywood. No director has yet been announced.
