MOVIE & TV NEWS

Shakespeare on Doctor Who
SCI FI Wire reports that Doctor Who's upcoming third season will introduce another famous character from British history. The show's executive producer, Russell T. Davies,  said: "William Shakespeare [played by Dean Lennox Kelly] is going to be in one of the episodes. And I think it's going to be one of those lavish, gorgeous episodes. We're really traveling around the country to get the right locations, because Elizabethan streets are not easy to come by, so the whole crew is going on the road. We're spending three nights in the Globe Theatre, which is the replica of Shakespeare's Globe, so it's a really big shoot. I'm very excited about that one and the script by Gareth Roberts, which is just gorgeous, so that's going to be very exciting." The third season will also introduce a  clan of galactic stormtroopers known as the Judoon. Davies said: "But otherwise, it's just too early to go into it yet." Season two of Doctor Who airs in the United States on SCI FI Channel beginning Sept. 29 and will be on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Maya & Miguel
The New York Times talks  here  about those adding a deaf character to PBS Kids' show "Maya & Miguel."  The show, which already fosters English/Spanish bilingualism, is adding a new character named Marco who uses American Sign Language (ASL). The idea came from voice actress Lupe Ontiveros who has two sons who are hearing impared.

The Transformers
Newsarama quoted screenwriter John Rogers about what he's learned about the production. He said: "Yep, I wrote the first draft. I've seen the shooting script, and it's about half and half. They've moved one of the storylines a little earlier, and they've increased the big military aspect, whereas I had focused on some of the smaller, personal stories. Yeah, you know, I get a credit, we'll see. We'll see what it looks like eventually. It goes from me, to the other guys, who work quite extensively with Michael Bay, so using what he needs to get his vision across. The characters are the same, the rough plot's the same, and I've seen the mock-ups of the battles and it's gonna be frickin' huge. It'll be a lot of fun to see."

Guillermo del Toro told Dark Horizons: "My idea with 'Hellboy 2' is that it's almost a rephrasing. You don't re-enact the franchise you reinvent it. My favorite movies are like 'Evil Dead 2' which is basically reinventing 'Evil Dead 1,' so I would hope 'Hellboy 2' could be taking what I learned from Hellboy 1 and reinventing it."

More Censorship
San Francisco-based Cuts Inc.  it is offering free software that will "allow individuals to censor their own movies legally." The company said: "With the Cuts Player and Cuts' online Directory service, users can post their own edits, as well as navigate through a variety of categories and lists of popular Cuts made by others. What makes The reason that the system is legal is that the edits people make never alter the original video. Instead, Cuts generates a set of instructions, called 'Cutlists', which implement the edits on the fly any time the video is played back with the Cuts Player software. Viewers must have the original video in order to view the edited version."

Juliana and the Medicine Fish
Rob Schneider is starring in "Juliana and the Medicine Fish," which starts filming this week in Canada. Based on the book by Jake MacDonald, it tells of a father (Schneider) who tries to save his troubled fishing lodge as well as his relationship with his 12-year-old daughter. The girl, meanwhile,  has uncovered an ancient secret in the waters near the lodge. MacDonald wrote the adaptation with Jeremy Torrie who will direct.
