C Wayne Owens' Movie & TV News is a daily newsletter featuring news gathered from all over the net with the newest and hottest movie and tv scoops. It is heavily weighted towards SF and Fantasy film, but if it's news (and not just Celeb gossip) it will be here, and be here weeks before the TV News shows even touch on it.

MOVIE & TV NEWS

Aronofsky Looks Ahead
SCI FI Wire talked to Darren Aronofsky, director of the upcoming movie The Fountain, and he told them that his next film will be either a large-scale biblical epic (with fantasy elements) or a small, intimate reality based film. Aronofsky said: "The next project we haven't announced yet, but . . .  we're working on . . . something that's very, very big and something that's very, very small. I just want to start shooting something in '07, because [The Fountain] took a long time, and I want to do something that's going to get me to set a lot quicker. I mean, [in] the last six years I've worked with actors for [only] 60 days, and I want to get back to set. We are working on something that's biblical in nature, and, luckily, that can mean a lot of different things. The big project is very, very fantasy-based. . . . [And] all my fantasy stuff leans towards science fiction." Aronofsky's flim, The Fountain, opens nationwide on Nov. 22.

TV DVD News
TVShowsOnDVD.com is telling us the nostalgic science fiction show "Space Academy" is being rleased, that story is posted here. There is also news of the release, finally, of "The Practice' over here. "Prince Valiant" news is here, and more classic Dr. Who is here.

Play Misty for Me
A strong rumor out there on the newsgroups and netsite is that Ben Affleck is in negotiation to produce and direct the Universal Pictures remake of Clint Eastwood's 1967 directorial debut "Play Misty for Me." Eastwood also starred in the original as a DJ who is stalked by his ex-lover turned deranged fan who obsesses about him and the song "Misty." Jason Smilovic is mentioned as the writer, and Eastwood himself may also produce. No word if Affleck would do double duty as Eastwood did in the original.

The Spirit
Frank Miller told IGN about about the Will Eisner adaptation, saying: "We're working on the script right now. We've got a good strong story to work with, and we're hoping to be in production either spring or fall. Either that or The Spirit will be the next thing I shoot. Either me and Robert [Rodriguez] on Sin City 2 or me on The Spirit. It all depends on where the pieces are on both projects. Sin City 2 is scripted, so it's mainly a matter of Robert's schedule and all the other production stuff."

Empire
The Hollywood Reporter says that Joel Silver has picked up "Empire." The story shows the death of the president and vice president evolving into a bloody civil war. A single operative is being framed for the attacks and strives to find the truth and clear his name. No screenwriter has been named.

Nielsen & DVRs
Nielsen Research has published a report that 84 percent of Nielson families record their favorite shows and watch them within three days after recording them. The study is part of their larger survey of viewing habits of DVR users and how they should be treated in negotiating deals with advertisers.
