C Wayne Owens' Movie & TV News is a daily newsletter featuring news gathered from all over the net with the newest and hottest movie and tv scoops. It is heavily weighted towards SF and Fantasy film, but if it's news (and not just Celeb gossip) it will be here, and be here weeks before the TV News shows even touch on it.

MOVIE & TV NEWS

MGM Plans 2 Hobbits
Harry Sloan (MGM's chief executive) spoke to the European Media Leaders Summit in London and gave some hints about the studio's path to Hobbiton. First,  yes there will be two films and yes, MGM was in advanced talks with Peter Jackson to direct the two movies. The first film, he said, is to be a direct adaptation of The Hobbit, then the second would be made up from "footnotes and source material connecting 'The Hobbit' with 'Lord of the Rings." Production, according to Sloan, isn't likely until 2008 or even 2009.

Lost Moments
ABC is planning to air "Lost Moments," a dozen 30-second bits of never-before-seen footage from upcoming episodes. The idea is to run them randomly during the network's new series "Day Break," appearing once per episode beginning Nov. 15, then they will be moved over to ABC.com.

TiVo Merging PC & TV
TiVo wants to add a new dimension to the DVR world. Besides allowing viewers to record shows from broadcast and cable TV, they now want to let their owners download movies and other video off the Internet and watch them directly on their TV sets. Tom Rogers, TiVo CEO, said: "Broadband video is growing rapidly on the Web, but the television will continue to be the key way viewers want to watch video. Our overall goal is to provide as many types of content in as many formats to be displayable on the television through TiVo." Microsoft said that users of its Xbox game system would soon do the same thing, and Apple announced that it plans to introduce a device, tentatively called iTV, early next year for the same purpose.

Aguilera on CSI: NY
First Kevin Federline on CSI, and now Christina Aguilera is going to guest star on "CSI: New York." The February episode is about battered women, an issue close to Aguilera's heart. She grew up in an abusive home and is a major contributor to a women's shelter in her hometown of Pittsburgh. Anthony Zuiker, CSI executive producer, says: "Christina's a fan of the show, and we're excited to have her. The episode will probably explore the topic of battered women." While Aguilera's music will be featured in the episode, she won't play herself.
