SERENDIPITY CINEMA"Swashbuckler" Movie Review
Here is a film that missed it's date. If it had been made about the time of "The Three Musketeers," it would have been huge. It could have been released the same weeks as "Pirates of the Caribbean" and it would have smashed records. Unfortunately, like so many on this list, it was released when no one was looking for just this kind of film.
The Errol Flynn era had passed and no one had yet picked up that gauntlet. But it is a fine little bon bon, for those who like their pirate stories full of memorable characters and beautiful locations.
Dazzling lady swordfighters, limerick spouting Captains, foolish authority figures and evil men in charge, all these things that have forever made the action adventure genre successful. With Robert Shaw as the pirate captain, James Earl Jones as his first mate, Peter Boyle (about as far from "Everybody Loves Raymond" as living in the same universe would allow) as the maniacal man in black who tortures more easily than he loves Anjelica Huston at his side. ![]() ![]() There is a lot of fun untapped here. Tap a keg of it and enjoy. ![]() If you have an idea for a Serendipity Cinema, or want to comment email here --posted by Wayne
