With her ABC series Karen Sisco now gone, Carla Gugino has been cast by Robert Rodriguez to play a role in his Dimension Films drama Sin City, based on Frank Miller's graphic novels, according to Variety. 'Home on the Range' May Be End Of The Line For Hand-Drawn Cartoons Disney's Home on the Range, which opened on Friday, may be the last hand-drawn animated feature the company will ever produce, Disney studio chief Dick Cook said during an interview with Reuters. Cook said that most of the industry has embraced computer animation, "It is where things are going." But animator Mark Pudleiner, who worked on the current release maintained in a separate interview that it is not the technique that is to blame, but the studio's inability to produce successful hand-drawn features. "There is such an aim for the bottom line and so much census-taking and poll-taking that the stories get diluted." ![]() Hatch Opens On Galactica Richard Hatch, who starred as Capt. Apollo on the original Battlestar Galactica series, confirmed to SCI FI Wire that he is in negotiations to make a guest appearance, but as a different character, in at least one episode of the upcoming Battlestar Galactica series. The news may surprise some fans, as Hatch had publicly taken SCI FI and the new show's producers to task for the way they have re-imagined the concept rather than continuing the old show. Hatch said in an interview, "There are very talented, gifted people involved in this version of Battlestar. I guess for five years I'd carried on a campaign to bring back the show, because I thought it had legs. I thought it had a huge fan support and following all over the world, having traveled the world with the Battlestar novels and comic books. Basically, I've been involved in ways to bring the show back and not only that, but to bring it back in a shape and a form and a way that fans would love and support and, yet, would also bring it into the future." The actor also said, "I do not see a competition between old show and new show. To me, the original show is a classic and it always will be. The new show is the decision that the network decided to make, and I've always told everybody I'd never do a cameo on any show. A cameo tells me that somebody just wants to use your name, but they're not interested in you as an actor. I've said, on any show, if they offered me a challenging, wonderful role to play, why would I not as an artist, as an actor, love to play it?" The miniseries aired last December and presented a major ratings success, and then Moore then reached out to Hatch. Hatch reported that Moore has cast him in a "Nelson Mandela kind of role," a person who "challenges the powers-that-be. I think the way they set it up is that it's a guest star role that could have a life depending on circumstances. There's been no determination made on that." Battlestar Galactica will debut in early 2005 ------------ 'Century City' Has Its Time Run Out It is not a great surprise that CBS has canceled its midseason futuristic legal drama Century City after airing only four episodes. The show, which starred Viola Davis, Nestor Carbonell, Hector Elizondo and Eric Schaeffer, had been taking a beating in the ratings. ------------ ![]() ------------ Free Feature Length Movies Now are you in the mood for a movie, or a lot of other kinds of shows, go here The Sync ------------- Knowles Co-producing Burroughs According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harry Knowles, who is the creator of the Ain't It Cool News Web site, is co-producing the upcoming SF movie Princess of Mars for Paramount Pictures. Serendipity Cinema: (This is a Once A Week Feature) A Recommended Film You May Never Have Heard Of, But Really Ought To See. #2. The Enchanted Cottage. Some will call it a "Chick Flick," others just a "Romantic Love Story" and some might even call it "Fantasy," but this film is about the power of hope, the magic of love. With magnificent performances and simple honesty, it paints a picture that would never be attempted today. It is glorious, and will leave no one who sees it unchanged. If you have a romantic bone in your body seek it out, and you will thank me for pointing you in its direction. ![]() --posted by Wayne
