Drew Carey's 'Green' on WB's Screen

The WB Network has purchased "Green Screen," a live-action/animated improvisation comedy pilot from Drew Carey. The idea is that, in front of a green screen,  the cast will film several improv games with topics and settings suggested by the audience. Using different animation styles,  during postproduction, those suggestions will be brought to life around the actors. This new show is not a spinoff of  "Whose Line Is It, Anyway," said Mike Clements, the WB's co-executive vp of comedy development. "This is something that's completely different, sort of taking improv in a new interesting direction," Clements said. "It's got a unique twist to that genre that's never been tried before, and it feels like a really good experiment to try." The cast of the project includes "Whose Line" and "Drew Carey Show" alumni Colin Mochrie, Kathy Kinney, Brad Sherwood, Jeff Davis, Charles Esten, Jonathan Mangum, Greg Proops and Sean Masterson, with Ryan Stiles as a guest star in the pilot.

C2F Cinema Presents: Punisher 2002
"The Punisher" will careen into theaters next weekend, blasting everything in sight,  but a group of independent filmmakers just couldn't wait that long. Back in 2002 they filmed a live-action "Punisher" short for entry in the Wizard "Direct to Video" contest. This February, many fans rediscovered the video when it showed up in the C2F Cinema.  If you you weren't one of them, head over to the C2F Cinema and enjoy The Punisher: 2002 Wizard contest entry. Carpenter Ready For Sitcom Role
Charisma Carpenter, known for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," will now star in a sitcom pilot that was a last-minute order from UPN. The untitled project is about an uptight, career woman (Carpenter) and her devil-may-care brother (Tyler Labine). The show was created by former "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" writer Andrew Secunda. Labine's other series include "That Was Then," "Dead Last" and "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch."

Seismic Experts Expected To Rip NBC A New One Over Quake Miniseries
NBC's upcoming miniseries about an impossibly large earthquake that on the West Coast has left seismic experts dumbfounded over what they called gross inaccuracies. The disaster epic, "10.5,"  features disasterously large quakes that topple the Golden Gate Bridge, and bring the Pacific Ocean into Los Angeles. The Government's attempt to stop the temblors is to fuse the San Andreas fault with a series of atomic explosions fails. Seismologists who previewed "10.5" expressed disbelief. A magnitude-10.5 earthquake would be 8,000 times more powerful than the 6.7 Northridge quake in Southern California in 1994. The largest earthquake to be recorded in all of history was a magnitude 9.5 off Chile in 1960. "The production is blatantly inconsistent with everything we know about earthquakes," said Lucy Jones, who is the scientist in charge of the U.S. Geological Survey office in Pasadena, California. "It's complete science fantasy, but as long as people know that nothing about it could be true, they can sit back and enjoy it." Howard Braunstein, executive producer of this miniseries, when asked if they consulted scientists while putting the project together, Braunstein said: "Not really. We went on the Internet for backup research."  The four-hour, special heavy miniseries will star Kim Delaney and Beau Bridges and will air May 2 and 3.

Kolchak: The Night Stalker Returns?
Anchor Bay's now-out-of-print DVD release of The Night Stalker/The Night Strangler, was released in 1998, and later discountinued after the rights expired. Since then, Kolchak fans (Of which your wirter is one) have been pining for the series to be released in a series set. Or not given that, for those who missed the original release, just to be able to once again have the opportunity to own these two pilot films "The Night Stalker" and "The Night Strangler". According to TheDigitalBits.com, The Bits' Rumor Mill section specifically, reported recently that among upcoming MGM releases planned for June, July, and August is an MGM re-release of The Night Stalker/The Night Strangler.  Now for series set for that, plus Salvage 1 & The Invaders.
