"Bachelor," Reality "Gilligan"
One of the
kings of reality television Mike
Fleiss, best known for The
Bachelor/Bachelorette,
was rewarded recently. ABC ordered up two more editions of the dating show
for next season; and, in a separate development, TBS has ordered two editions
of a Fleiss-helmed reality version of Gilligan's
Island. Beginning this fall, the ABC will present at least two more
11-episode packages of The Bachelor. Meanwhile, TBS has committed to two
eight-episode cycles of an unscripted series based on the classic castaway
sitcom, set for a fall premiere. "We couldn't be happier to have our hit
reality series back next season," Andrea Wong, ABC's senior vp of alternative
series and specials. "Through brilliant casting and carefully added elements
to the original formula, the show is a rock on our primetime line-up."
In that same press release, Fleiss said, "I'm looking forward to The Bachelor
being ABC's number 1 show for the fourth straight year." Meanwhile, on
the Gilligan front, Fleiss will be looking to cast real-life clones of
all the characters: sexy showbiz siren Ginger, sweet farm girl Mary Ann,
the resourceful Professor, moneybags Thurston Howell III and dim wife Lovey,
and, of course, the Skipper. Like their fictional alter egos, this new
batch of goofballs will indulge in all sorts of foolish schemes to try
to escape the island. Steve Koonin, TBS' executive vice president and chief
operating officer, thinks Fleiss' the show will "resonate with the young."

Perlman
In "Coldwater"
The
Hollywood Reporter informs us that, after the success of "Hellboy,"
Ron
Perlman is set to star in "Coldwater."
The paper reports that the film is "a fictional story based on the reality
of juvenile boot camps, where the punishment is often much greater than
the crime. Perlman will play the charming but sadistic ranch leader."

some of you creative mad scientists out there. Here's what you gotta do:
As a loon with a god complex, you'll take various components of any classic
monsters you see fit, and piece them together into the ultimate beast.
Something that could slay a pimp-hat wearing monster hunter with just its

MUTANT
EX ?
The Mutant
X television series is now in doubt after comments from one of its
cast members. Although a fourth season pick-up had been previously announced,
a representative of Tribune Entertainment
on Friday told The Comics Continuum
that the state of the show hasn't been formally decided yet. Karen
Cliche , who plays Lexa
Pierce, earlier this week posted on her
web site that the show was done. She said: "Just
thought I would be the first to let you know before it has been officially
announced that Mutant X is canceled. We are all very sad. Don't know when
they will make it official, but we have (the cast) been advised that we
aren't going (for) another season. We are all now trying to go on with
our lives and careers, and who knows? This could be an opening of wonderful
opportunities for many people. Always look at the bright side!"
The third season of Mutant X is supposed to end next month with a cliffhanger.

Universal
