Fox
To Show Preview Of "The Day After Tomorrow"
The Fox
network plans to promote 20th Century Fox's summer film "The
Day After Tomorrow" with a 10-minute trailer set that will air May
12, Variety reports. The trailer
is set to air from 8:44 to 8:54 p.m., and will include some harrowing scenes
from the ecological disaster movie. "The Day After Tomorrow" is scheduled
to open in theatres on May 28. To make room for the trailer, Fox will shuffle
the schedule, beginning with an extended edition of "That
'70s Show," from 8 p.m. to 8:44 p.m., and then an expanded version
of American Idol that
will run from 8:54 to 10 p.m..
IDW Plan
To Publish TV's "24"
As A Comic
Comicon.com's
PULSE news site has announced that IDW
is planning to publish comics based on Fox Network's 24. IDW currently
also publishes comics from FX's The
Shield and CBS's CSI.
Is
It Simply A Good Life?
Paris
Hilton, found success on the internet, and then as a reality star on
Fox's "The Simple Life ,"
now parents Kathy and Rick Hilton are venturing into reality TV with "The
Good Life." NBC is rumored to have given an eight-episode order to the
project for a September launch. The show, hosted by Kathy Hilton, mimics
"My Fair Lady,"
featuring 10 young women from around the country who have yet to realize
their potential.
NBC
Mounts Van Helsing Spinoff
Bob
Ducsay, producer of the movie Van
Helsing, told SCI FI Wire that NBC is creating a series called "Transylvania",
set in the universe of the summer movie. Transylvania he said, "is
related to the film, [but] it's not the movie for television. It's the
world of Van Helsing. It takes place in the late 1800s, like Van Helsing,
and it takes place in Transylvania. But none of the characters intersect.
It's actually a new idea that just takes place in the world [of the movie]."
Stephen Sommers, writer-director
of Van Helsing, in a separate interview, said that he got the inspiration
for the proposed TV series on the movie's elaborate Prague set. "One
day we were just sitting on the set, which [production designer] Allan
Cameron had built this fantastic village for, and I'm like, 'I'd hate
to tear this down,'" Sommers told. "I mean, it's so fantastic, and I'd
hate to bulldoze it. 'We ought to do something with it. Let's do a television
show!' And that's when my wheels start spinning."
Tree
Is Firmly Planted At WB
"One
Tree Hill" has received an early pickup for fall from the WB network,
with a full-season 22-episode order. After its disappointing premiere in
September, with a minuscule 2.5 million audience, the show has consistently
improved its ratings performance (Sort of like Angel
did), and now ranks as the second-highest drama on television in female
teens. In its most recent airing, the series logged 4.4 million viewers
and hit series highs in such key demographics as viewers 18-34 and 12-34.
"We always felt like the little show that could, so it feels like the little
show that could has made quite a climb," reported "One Tree Hill" creator
Mark Schwahn. "One Tree
Hill" is the only freshman series the network has picked up for a second
season, so it joins returning series "7th
Heaven," "Charmed,"
"Smallville," "Gilmore
Girls" and "Everwood."
Curtis
Approves Of New Dark Shadows
Producer
Dan Curtis, developing
a new version of his classic soap opera Dark
Shadows for The WB, told an audience at the Museum
of Television and Radio that the new edition of the vampire series
"looks pretty good," the Zap2it Web site
reports. Curtis is developing the show with ER
producer John Wells and
Smallville writer Mark Verheiden,
and The WB plans to announce in May if it has picked the show up. Curtis
told the Beverly Hills crowd that the show originated in the '60s with
a dream about a girl on a train, hired to be a governess in a remote location.
The new version will cast Scottish actor Alec
Newman as vampire Barnabas Collins, a role created by Jonathan
Frid.
"Dark
Shadows" The Originals
Polanski
Finds His "Oliver Twist"
Roman
Polanski has been in a hunt for the cast of his next film, "Oliver
Twist." Afer searching London's drama schools to find the right actor,
with a cockney accent typical of London's East End, his odessey resulted
in 30 possible candidates. After screen testing in Prague, where "Oliver
Twist" will be shot, 10-year-old Barney Clarke won the role. Ben
Kingsley has already been cast as Fagin. Shooting is to begin on July
12.
Live-Action
Version Of The Transformers?
IESB.net
says that at the Wizard
World L.A. convention they spoke with "a very close friend of Tom
DeSanto" (TF movie producer) who said "the
director for the live action Transformer Movie was going to be [Robert]
Zemeckis and that New Line Cinema was going to distribute. Zemeckis
had been rumored to be involved in the project but to what extent nothing
had been announced." The report goes on to
say, "After the revelation he noticed that
I was quite shocked to see that he had volunteered that information so
easily. Immediately he begged not to be quoted."
At the same time Comic
Book Resources said that the highly-anticipated movie won't arrive
in theaters "until at least late 2006, most
likely a December release."
Branagh
To Do The Impossible
Kenneth
Branagh is joining Tom
Cruise , Carrie-Anne Moss
& Ving Rhames in
"Mission: Impossible 3,"
due to go into production in late summer. Though some expect that he will
be one of the villains, few details are available. Cruise will be back
as agent Ethan Hunt.
SAG
Will Hike Dues
Saying
it had to build a strike fund before new contract talks with film and TV
producers in the fall and generally boost its reserves, the Screen
Actors Guild board voted Sunday an increase in union dues, the first
one in five years. For members who do not earn any money during a particular
year, dues would rise from $100 to $130, but for the highest-paid union
members, earning more than $200,000, dues would double. The fee to join
the union will rise to $2,085 from $1,356. An estimated $7.3 million in
new funds would be generated annually by the increases. The proposed hike
is to be submitted to the membership on May 7 and, if approved, go into
effect next November.
Idle
Jokes Brian Died Better On Film Than Jesus
Eric
Idle compared his crucifixion in Monty
Python's The Life of Brian (he's credited as a "crucifee") with the
latest one in The Passion
of the Christ and found his own infinitely superior. Writing in Sunday's
Los Angeles Times, Idle commented that he hasn't seen the Mel Gibson film,
"I gather that Mel doesn't handle the comedy
too well, and he seems to totally ignore the singing opportunities of the
crucifixion altogether. I suppose we should be grateful he makes a film
where for once the Brits aren't to blame for everything."
Idle ithat that both of these films owe their existence to the single-minded
vision of one man, in Brian's case, the late former Beatle, George
Harrison, who Idle disclosed, "mortgaged
his home and put up all the money because, he said, 'he wanted to see the
movie.' At $4 million, this is still the most anyone has ever paid for
a movie ticket." Idle credited Gibson with
the resurrection of Brian, "thanks to [the
success of] his holy snuff film." The Life
of Brian will reopen in limited release on April 30, with expected picketing
due to these statements, and, therefore, huge receipts.
Question
#837: What was Shirley's last name
in
the series "Laverne and Shirley"?
Answer
#836:
In
the movie "Clue," Kellye
Nakahara played Mrs. Ho (The Cook).
This
was a tough one, with many folks getting caught. Robin
got it first saying
"The
first REAL victim was the cook, played by Kellye Nakahara. The first
SUPPOSED
victim (he wasn't really dead, just pretending to be dead until he
was
later killed) was Mr. Boddy, played by Lee Ving",
Andrew
got it next and he wrote, "That's a tough
question.....
The
first body was Mr Body, played by Lee Ving.
According
to the ending when it said, "But Here's What
Really
Happened," Mr. Body was still alive and The cook was killed
first
by Mrs. Peacock before Prefessor Plum killed Mr. Body while
everyone
found the cook. So to make a long story short... 'TOO LATE!'
The
Cook, who was played by Kellye Nakahara"
