Lost
Black Earth
This is
one of those films I have heard nothing about. Just found the link on a
newsgroup, went to the site and thought it looked interesting. I hereby
share that site with you, if you hear more about this film. Let me know:
"Lost Black Earth" & here's
the trailer.
The
Poseidon Adventure
"The
Poseidon Adventure," is now to be written by Mark
Protosevich. Wolfgang
Petersen's Radiant Pictures and reality TV producer Mike
Fleiss are producing the remake for Warner Bros. The original, released
in 1972 by 20th Century Fox, told of the survival quest of a group of survivors
when a passenger ship is flipped over by a tidal wave.

"Swiss
Family Robinson" Joins Remake Fever
Disney is
putting together a remake of its 1960 family film "Swiss
Family Robinson," which starred John
Mills and Dorothy McGuire.
Sources say, the new project will be set in the same time period as the
original, around the beginning of the 19th century. Greg
Poirier, will write the script. The classic story, from a
novel by Johann David Wyss, tells of the Robinson family washed ashore
alone on an tropical island after a stormy shipwreck. It is the story of
a family overcoming all the obstacles to survival. Many other versions
of the same tale have been filmed over the years. One of the things readers
of the book objected to with the Disney film, was the addition of a side
plot involving pirates. Even the Disney theme park attraction about the
Swiss Family didn't need pirates to draw fans.

Beyond
a Reasonable Doubt
"Beyond
a Reasonable Doubt" the great 1956 RKO production directed by Fritz
Lang, has been targeted for remake by Regency Enterprises & David
Collard. The original story was a breath-taking tale about a newsman
who intentionally frames himself for murder. He wants to point out the
dangers of circumstantial evidence. He also wants to expose an overzealous
district attorney, a man who has manipulated evidence more than once in
the past to gain high profile convictions. Everything is going as planned
until the one person in on the plot, the one who can exonerate him, is
killed.
Novelist
Cussler Tries To Halt Shooting of 'Sahara'

Clive
Cussler has sued Philip
Anschutz's Crusader
Entertainment in an attempt to halt the shooting of a movie version
of his book Sahara.
Cussler says that his deal with Crusader gave him unqualified script approval
and that the all the screenplays that have been submitted to him have been
unacceptable. He was quoted in the Denver
Post as saying: "They've sent me seven
scripts, and I've inserted each one in the trash can."
Crusader has countersued, saying, "To option
the rights to the entire [Dirk Pitt] series, Crusader paid Cussler an extremely
handsome price, even by Hollywood standards."
Film production has already begun, and the company accuses Cussler of,
not only delaying further production, but of attempting to "foment
opposition to the film among his fans, and to organize a fan campaign to
coerce Crusader into letting Cussler write the screenplay."
Kong
Not A Re-Imagining
Entertainment
Weekly interviewed director Peter
Jackson who says his upcoming "King
Kong" is not a mere remake: "We are not
reinventing it. Our story follows the same structure. It satrts in New
York, goes to Skull Island, and there's dinosaurs on the island. Then it
comes back to New York and there's the Empire State Building and the biplanes
and the whole thing". They're also laboring to make this version
"emotionally truthful. I put that ahead of anything else, including technology
and the realism of the effects. Everybody's image of 'King Kong' is that
it's this amazing beauty-and-the-beast love story. And when you look at
the original film, there is a sense that Kong is feeling an attraction
toward Ann-probably the first empathy he's felt in his life toward another
living creature. But Ann is not giving him a thing. She just looks at him
as an object of horror the entire time. She screams at him, she's terrified.
Her relationship with Kong doesn't go beyond that. We're having a lot of
fun making it more psychologically real"
Queen
Latifah as Alec Guinness?
Director
Wayne Wang is talking
about remaking "Last Holiday,"
a comedy remake with Queen
Latifah taking the lead role originally played by Alec
Guinness. In the 1950 British version, written by J.B.
Priestley , Guinness played an average man who, when diagnosed as not
having long to live, cashes in his worldly possesions to spend his final
days in a swanky resort. There he is mistaken for a super-rich eccentric.
Shooting is to begin in the fall.
Sam
Jones III (Pete Ross) Is Leaving Smallville
Kryptonsite
has gotten an early copy of Dreamwatch
#117 (on sale 4/29 in the UK, 5/18 in the U.S.) and has told us that within
the magazine they reveal that the episode "Forsaken" will be Sam
Jones III's last as a regular on Smallville. Judging from the episode
spoilers, events of the episode might be the final straw for the Pete Ross
character, but no one is assuming he's being killed.
Boudica,
Warrior Queen
Mel
Gibson and Bruce Davey
(Icon Pictures) will team with
Gavin and Greg
O'Connor to produce "Warrior," an epic about Boudica,
a female warrior who led Britain against Roman conquerors and was posthumously
named Britain's first queen.
