Janis The Hero
Rolling Stone interviewed Penelope Spheeris, who is directing the upcoming Janis Joplin biography film "The Gospel According to Janis" and she said about Pink's screen test for the role, "To see this girl bring Janis to life was profound" It will be Pink's acting debut, but Spheeris is confident. Producer Peter Newman is quoted as saying,  "She can sing Janis with her heart and soul without it being pure mimicry. It's something very raw and immediate". Spheeris adds that Pink "knows Janis' music to the degree that she hits every single note." Whne confronted about the tendancy in this sort of film to deconstruct mythic figures, Spheeris rebutted,  "I'm making a movie about a hero. She was a woman breaking the rules when women didn't. She lived her life on a tight rope, but she was anything but a train-wreck".

Living It Up Is Dead
King World has canceled the syndicated talkfest Living It Up! With Ali And Jack. The production will air through May 27, with new episodes airing up to September 10. It was, for those who have watched an episode, a merciful death.

Day Of The Dead Has A Sequel!
The last film in George Romero's Trilogy of the Dead, doesn't seem to be the end of things. Fangoria reports that a sequel to the 1985 film (The weakest of the three) titled Day Of The Dead: Contagium, has wrapped shooting in Los Angeles. Directed by Jim Dudelson, president of Taurus Entertainment (the company that produced). Where this puts the remake of Day of the Dead, no one is commenting.

Writer Looks Forward To Kidstuff
Gregory Smith of "Everwood" has signed on with Director Josh Stolberg for the independent film "Kids in America." Stolberg whose script for "The Passion of the Ark" recently sold to Warner Brothers for a princely sum, will make his directing bow with "Kids." Included in the cast are Rosanna Arquette, Samantha Mathis, Elizabeth Perkins, Adam Arkin, Nicole Richie and George Wendt. The film is about a motley group of kids who band together to oppose the corrupt school administration. Shooting starts on May 19 in Los Angeles.

Jeffrey Combs Goes Mad, Again, In Hammerhead
Re-Animator star Jeffrey Combs, who is so much more than this kind of role,  will be looking crazy again, this time for the latest Nu Image feature for the Sci Fi Channel. The story is that Combs` character disallowed from using human cells for his stem-cell experiments, begins to use other species. The science is way off the chart already, right? Then he injects samples from a shark into a human. Does he get a man who swims well, doesn't need to sleep and takes care of his mother? Nein! He gets a monstrosity that is half-human/half-shark and (you're not going to believe this part!) goes on a rampage! ``Jeff has been great, a real pro,'' Sci Fi Channel`s Ray Canella told Fangoria. ``Everyone loves him, and we`re thrilled that he`s playing this part.'' The movie is currently lensing in Bulgaria.

Felissa Rose And The Gay Old Dead
"Sleepaway Camp" star Felissa Rose has decided to star in "Dead Serious" and it will be shooting in New York City in May. Joe Sullivan will direct. The story goes something like this:
A religious zealot who leads a cult, and they take over a gay bar. They plan is to erase the scourge of homosexuality from the Earth.  They don't realize that the "Natural Order" they plan to reclaim, is just what is being destroyed by their actions. Then the undead seek vengence against them, and the most unlikely band of heroes must band together and fight to survive the night and save the city. Now if the dead will only move against some zealots out here in the midwest.

But Then, He's In Rehab
Nicholas Brendon, who played Xander on TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, told conventioneers in Cleveland that a Buffy movie is still a possibility, according to a report on the Ain't It Cool News Web site. (Of course the same site is reporting that Fox is working on a "Catcher In The Rye" film, and no one else will confirm it. Hope you're right on both cases AICN!)
