Moore Exits Movie Adaptations
Alan Moore , one of the most celebrated comic book creators of the last decades and co-creator of the "V For Vendetta" comic, has publicly disassociated himself from the upcoming Warner Brothers adaptation . The film is written and produced by the Wachowski Brothers . And as a result, Moore cut his remaining ties with DC Comics , including future volumes of the " League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen ." Moore has promised future volumes in that series will be published by a US/UK collaboration between Top Shelf   and Knockabout .  Moore said about film versions of his work:  "As long as I could distance myself by not seeing them, enough to keep them separate, take the option money, I could be assured no one would confuse the two. This was probably naïve on my part. " He told Rich Johnston at Comic Book Resources.com : " After the films came out, I began to feel increasingly uneasy, I have a dwindling respect for cinema as it is currently expressed."

Giamatti And The Illusion
SCI FI Wire  is reporting that Paul Giamatti is in Prague making " The Illusionist ," based on the Steven Milhauser short story " Eisenheim the Illusionist." Giamatti told reporters: " I did not read the short story. It`s been changed quite a bit, I`ve been told. It`s a period piece about a magician [ Edward Norton as Eisenheim] in Vienna who gets involved in political intrigue. I play this inspector in the secret police, who tries to destroy his reputation. It`s been a good shoot so far. It`s going great. It`s really fun to do a period piece like this [the film is set in 1900], with horses and carriages and top hats and crap like that." Does it have fantastic elements? Giamatti:  "It does. Without giving too much of it away, it does. It`s undercut in some ways, but it`s ambiguous about what`s real and what's not and what's actual. . . . Not necessarily just magic, but there`s all sorts of weird stuff with spiritualism and spirits being summoned and stuff like that. How much of it is real and how much of it is not is left somewhat ambiguous in the end." The Illusionist, with Jessica Biel and Rufus Sewell , is scheduled to be released in 2006.

What Is . .  Your Own Gameshow?
Last year Ken Jennings won $2.5 on "Jeopardy!"   Now Comedy Central has announced that they are developing a game show for the game show champion. The executive producer of " Who Wants to Be a Millionaire ," Michael Davies , will executive produce the untitled series with Jennings. The show is expected to be on the air this year. Davies says: " Comedy usually comes out of conflict, and there`s a conflict at the heart of Ken. He comes across a nice, gentle, quiet man, but when you put a buzzer in his hand, he becomes a killer." Lauren Corrao , senior vp original programing and head of development at Comedy Central said of the new host: "Research has shown that our viewers are clamoring for more shows hosted by software engineers from Utah and, fortunately, Ken was available and had a screen test handy."

2:22
Todd Stein has written 2:22, about a tortured artist to who notices that strange things happen at the same place and time every day. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will produce the film for DreamWorks . Kurtzman said: "We love the idea of taking a high-concept idea and turning into a female-driven thriller."

Edgar Allen Stallone
Variety  reports that Sylvester Stallone  has written and is set to direct "Poe," about the life of Edgar Allan Poe . Production is scheduled to begin in Europe this Fall. The father of gothic horror, as well a the modern detective story, will be played by Robert Downey Jr. if Stallone gets his choice.  Stallone has been pitching this project since he completed the screenplay in 2002, but the project has only gelled this week.

Crawlspace
Stephen Susco  will adapt the Herbert Lieberman novel Crawlspace for Paramount Pictures . The book, published in 1971 was adapted for a TV film in that same year. The story is about a retired couple who decide to ask a shy young man who`s repairing their heater to stay for dinner. They later discover that the man has taken up residence in the basement crawlspace.

Reaping Swank
Hilary Swank  will star in "The Reaping " for producer Joel Silver . Her character specializes in giving the scientific explanations for myths, legends and miracles, until she travels to a town that appears to be suffering the 10 biblical plagues. Silver said: " It`s a very scary script because Hilary`s character comes up against something that is very real. Gothika was a good choice for Halle [Berry ] because it was a thriller that made $150 million US worldwide. It showed she could carry a commercial drama. Hilary will prove the same thing with The Reaping. Even though these women win Oscars, studios are reluctant to let them carry a film." Silver plans to have The Reaping out next spring. "We can put these horror thriller out faster than most regular studio films." said Silver.
