John
Carter Moves Closer To Mars
Ehren
Krugeris is quoted in
Now Playing magazine saying that his script
for the upcoming film version of Edgar
Rice Burroughs ` John
Carter of Mars series will adhere to the books. "It`s
a faithful adaptation to the novels, but the novels were written in the
teens and `20s, so there`s some degree of modernization just to the tone
of them. But in terms to the story, we are trying to be as faithful as
we can, because those novels inspired a lot of the science fiction and
fantasy that came later in the century." The
original John Carter
novels (beginning with "
A Princess of Mars ") tell of a Civil War veteran who is transported
to the Red Planet, and there he enters a world of beautiful princesses,
giant green barbarians and epic battles. Kruger`s script will be
filmed by director
Kerry Conran
, so together they will design the otherworldly feel that the classic tale
demands.
