Chekov
Ends On The Web
Walter
Koenig played Ensign Chekov in the original Star
Trek series: "I was most unhappy . . .
that there wasn`t a whole lot of dimension to the character. It was push
buttons and say `Warp factor five` with as many inflections as possible
- - and with an accent." In an interview at
Enigma Con at the University of California, Los Angeles, he told SCI
FI Wire that he is will be starring in a fan-based Internet short film
to give some closure to the character. "This
is a unique opportunity to give some dimension to my character.
" Koenig said that fans approached him to do an in-depth D.C.
Fontana story about Chekov, and together they found an
actor who looked eerily like himself when the show had begun. "
He will play me in my younger days, and I`ll play the character as older,
of course. It will be a real gut-wrencher. If I perform properly, it will
work. " Paramount Studios will allow the production
as long as it is distributed for free on the Internet, which they expect
to do in January. Koenig added: "Indeed it
is fan-driven, but there are professionals in this business who are fans
and willing to work on it. It is cathartic for me and an opportunity to
reveal to the audience and the fans who this man is. I want there to be
some justification for all the attention and acclaim that has been bestowed
on us over these four decades. I`m doing it for fun and a sense of closure.
It vindicates something about myself. "
X-Men 3Loses Director From
its beginning "X-Men 3" has had its own share of controversy. Halle
Berry might not be back if she didn`t get a bigger batch of the focus.
Bryan Singerwas out, since
he wanted to direct " Superman
Returns," so there was a search for a new director. Then
James Marsden might
get tossed because of his involvement with the same film. Now, while coming
down to the production wire, and the film is without its new director
Matthew
Vaughn. The studio announced that Vaughn, citing personal reasons,
wass stepping aside as director. 20th
Century Fox elaborated, saying that the London-based director had planned
to travel between his home and the Vancouver locations, but "as
the shooting schedule evolved, he realized he would have to move to Los
Angeles and Vancouver for at least a year. Not wishing to uproot his family
for an extended period, Vaughn opted to depart the production."
Avi Arad was quick to add: "This is not a
case of creative differences. This is a personal decision by Matthew, and
I can tell you that he is heartbroken. He loved this material, and he wanted
to make this film. " The studio says they hope to announce a new director
and the actor playing Angel by the end of the week.
Toons
Out, Reruns In
The
WB Network announced this week that as of January, the
network will drop its 3-5 p.m. Monday-Friday Kids`
WB! animation block. Replacing it will be repeats of sitcoms
that they will syndicate to their 200-plus station affiliates. In answer
to the change, Kids' WB! will expand its Saturday morning block by an hour,
7 a.m. (EST) to noon, also starting in January.
Berman
Predicts Star Trek Return
Rick
Berman says (in the UK`s Star
Trek Magazine ) of his plans to revive the movie franchise in two or
three years. " I think that timeframe for
a new, fresh feature with a whole different outlook would be fine."
About a Television revival, he continued: "[It]
certainly would be possible. And the answer is that the powers that be
at Paramount seem to feel that the time has come to give things a rest.
"
The
Sasquatch Dumpling Gang
Jeremy
Sumpter goes from playing "Peter
Pan " to "The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang." Dark
Horizons calls the film (by "Napoleon
Dynamite " producer Jeremy
Coon ): "a comic tale of several converging
groups searching for proof of the legendary Sasquatch.
