Ratner
Official
Twentieth
Century Fox and Marvel
Entertainment have picked their latest director for "
X-Men 3 ," and that choice is Brett
Ratner . He will continue with the script by Zak
Penn and Simon Kinberg
. The original cast will be joined by Kelsey
Grammer , Vinnie Jones
and Maggie Grace , who
signed on to play new mutant characters.
Patrick Stewart will be back after having a minor heart scare.
O`Neill
Exits Stargate
Fans of
" Stargate SG-1 " were
a little more than stunned to find out about the exit of Jack O`Neill (Richard
Dean Anderson ) Well, Now
Playing Magazine asked Anderson about his
reasons behind the decision to step away from the role and the show in
the ninth season: "The situation I put to
myself, my immediate future that is, employment-wise, is that I don`t want
to leave Los Angeles for a while. I`d rather not do a series that would
keep me end-to-end five days a week. Part of my situation [with]
MGM
in the latter years was to create a schedule that allowed me to spend more
time down here in Los Angeles. It`s gotten to the point where I can`t even
do what I need to do to accommodate my daughter now. I`ve had some offers
to do some things that would shoot here."
About appearing in this season he said: "I`ve
done a couple of scenes for Stargate to help launch the ninth season and
help make it clear that O`Neill is still alive and that we may see him
again somewhere down the line. May see him. . . May . . . May not . . .
But may . . . But may not. "

She
Wasn`t Just Stuck In The Back Of The Plane
When we
saw her last, she was complaining on her cell phone that she had gotten
stuck in the back of the plane. We also knew that all those folks were
sucked out of the plane to their deaths. So, it would seem, Michelle
Rodriguez was able to move up the seating chart and will join the regular
cast of Lost in its second
season. We met Ana-Lucia Cortez (Rodriguez) talking in an airport bar with
Jack
in the finale of the first season. Variety
confirms that this flashback was just the beginning for another passenger
on the doomed Oceanic Airlines flight 815.
Poseidon
Cast
The
Hollywood Reporter confirms that Warner
Brothers Pictures has put together much of the cast for the
Wolfgang Petersen remake
of "The Poseidon Adventure
." While Andre Braugher
is in talks to join the company,
Kurt Russell , Richard
Dreyfuss , Emmy Rossum
and Mike Vogel are already
committed to the project. Like the Paul
Gallico novel and the 1972 film, we follow the battle for survival
by passengers of the S.S. Poseidon, a cruise ship which is capsized by
a tidal wave. Trapped inside a group works their way to the hull. Shooting
is to begin June 18 on the Warners lot. The screenplay is by Mark
Protosevich and Akiva
Goldsman .
You
Make 2 Prequels, You Pay For 2 Prequels!
The Hollywood
Reporter has said that William
Blatty has brought suit against Morgan
Creek Productions for allegedly not paying him an agreed-upon
fee for a recent sequel to the franchise from his book "
The Exorcist ." Blatty seeks the $750,000 he was reportedly guaranteed
if the studio made a second sequel to the original 1973 release. Blatty
contends that while he was paid for the first sequel, 2004`s "
Exorcist: The Beginning ," he was not paid for the second, the recently
released " Dominion: Prequel
to the Exorcist. " Morgan Creek had no comment, the trade paper said.

Dog`s
Life
The Lois
Duncan novel "Hotel for Dogs"
has been optioned by DreamWorks
. The story is about a teen who fills a vacant house with stray dogs after
she moves in with her aunt and has to leave her dachshund behind. Duncan
is author of the teen thriller "
I Know What You Did Last Summer ," upon which the film was based (a
movie she reportedly hates).
